Sebastian Vettel tops the times in FP2 at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

As the track presented the first dry running of the weekend, Sebastian Vettel soared to the top ahead of the Red Bulls. Creating a six-tenths margin over his team-mate as the German chases to claw back points in the F1 title race. The session, though, was called short as Romain Grosjean crashed out of the session as a drain cover flicked up and shreaded his rear-right tyre.

Putting his upgraded Red Bull ahead of the field on the supersoft tyres, above Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas as Lewis Hamilton missed his chance at a flying lap thanks to yellow flags for Felipe Massa and a red flag when Pascal Wehlrein suffered a heavy head on crash at Turn 11.

Chinese GP | FP1 stopped then topped by Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen tops first free practice for Red Bull at the Chinese Grand Prix.

With a thick layer of cloud smothering the Shanghai International Circuit, the red flags were out and the session was stopped for 40-minutes. But when the cloud lifted, Verstappen went fastest on the wet track. Edging Massa by 1.5-seconds before the cloud returned and closed the designated local hospital.
